According to the ARRL, the free $35 license fee for amateur radio is unlikely to go into effect until some time in early 2022. The ARRL was told by the FCC that they are still working out the logistics of collecting the fees. They also report that VE – the volunteer examiners who administer license exams – will not be responsible for collecting the fees.
If you’re considering getting licensed, or if you have a renewal coming up soon, now is the time before the new fees go into effect.
